My wife surfed for many years on her favorite board, a 9' Gordon&Smith, shaped by the iconic Larry Mabile. Larry first became known for his quality glassing work and had the privilege of glassing the boards of legendary shaper Skip Frye. This eventually led to his first shaping job for G&S Surfboards in 1979 where he continued to work alongside master shaper Skip Frye. He continued to hone his skills throughout the 90's while shaping boards at Xanadu, Swift Movement and Kane Garden.
More recently, when Larry was running his own shop "Third World Exotic" in San Diego, we took her old G&S down there and had him make a copy of it. He changed a few minor things (example the tail is a squash, rather than a rounded pin), but the finished board is stellar and has been waiting for waves for some years. Larry has since retired, his shop is now closed and his boards are highly sought after.
Fast forward to today: Barb rarely surfs much anymore and still, her old G&S remains water tight and somewhat ding free, so she still uses it and, with much thought, put the green light on selling her 2nd generation Mabile masterpiece.
New, Showroom Quality! This board has never been waxed or touched the ocean, 9' 0", 22" wide, with a 13 1/2" tail and 16 3/4" nose. It has a leash plug, a 10.5 Fins Unlimited 105 channel main fin box and two FCS Fusion side boxes. It is a performance longboard, will paddle well, pull snappy turns and show speed. Although it is not designed for nose riding, I have gotten a few good nose rides on her G&S. Notes: The old G&S shown is not for sale, only for comparison. Also see two images of Larry, early and later years. Beginner to Advanced: If you are looking for a new longboard, why spend up to $500 more and add the sales tax too. Come check out this brand new board shaped by the iconic Larmo!
